My Pinterest inspired greenhouse cabinet journey using Amazon finds

I originally started this project after seeing countless greenhouse cabinet setups on Pinterest. I kept coming back to them, saved pins, screenshots, ideas, and I couldn’t get the thought out of my head that I wanted to create my own version.

Around the same time, my son had just graduated high school and left for bootcamp. Even though we still have a child at home, the dynamic in our house shifted in a way I wasn’t fully expecting. I found myself needing something to focus on, something hands-on that would keep my mind busy and give me a creative outlet.

That’s when I decided to finally start this project.

🌿 From Inspiration to Planning

I did what most of us do when we fall into a rabbit hole, I researched. A lot.

I looked at different greenhouse cabinet setups, storage ideas, lighting options, plant layouts, and everything in between. I wanted mine to feel functional, but also personal and calming.

Eventually, I stopped just saving ideas and started making decisions.

I knew I wanted something that could come together fairly quickly and easily, so I did what honestly made the most sense… I started ordering what I needed from Amazon. Fast, simple, and let’s be honest, everything is right there.

🛒 Getting Everything in Place

Once everything started arriving, I got to work putting the cabinet together.

This wasn’t a plug-and-play setup, it took some adjusting and problem solving along the way.

My husband jumped in and helped with one of the key modifications: cutting a cord hole in the bottom of the cabinet so I could properly run power through for lighting and equipment. That alone made a big difference in making the space functional.

From there, I started building it out piece by piece:

  • added lighting to bring life into the space
  • installed fans for better air circulation
  • adjusted and changed the shelves to improve airflow
  • added weather stripping to help control the environment inside

Each step made it feel less like a cabinet and more like a living, functioning greenhouse space.

🌱 Bringing in the Plants

Once the structure was ready, it was time for the fun part.

I went to a local greenhouse that my friends and I visit at least once a year. It’s one of those places we always end up at seasonally, even if we don’t need anything specific.

This time, I picked out a few plants specifically for this project, things that would bring life, texture, and personality into the cabinet.

That was the moment it really started to feel complete.

🧺 What I Used to Get Started

To build this setup, I focused on a few key categories of items:

  • Lighting setup for plant growth and ambiance
  • Small circulation fans
  • Shelf adjustments and supports
  • Weather stripping and sealing materials
  • Basic plant tools and accessories

Everything was chosen with function first, but I also wanted it to still feel clean and intentional once everything came together.

🌿 What This Space Means to Me

This greenhouse cabinet ended up being more than just a project.

It became something I could focus on during a season of change, something creative and grounding at the same time.

It gave me a space to build, adjust, learn, and create without overthinking it too much.

And honestly, it’s still evolving.

🌸 What’s Next for This Space

I’m intentionally not sharing everything all at once, because part of the fun of this project is how it continues to grow and change over time.

In future posts, I’ll be sharing:

  • how I’ve acquired each plant
  • how the cabinet has evolved
  • how I named the greenhouse
  • and all the little treasures and details I’ve added along the way to give it character

This is just the beginning of the story.

🌿 Final Thoughts

What started as Pinterest inspiration turned into a project that gave me something meaningful to focus on and build from the ground up.

It’s simple, it’s still evolving, and it’s very much my own.

And that’s exactly what I wanted it to be.
